Children, teenagers, and young adults are more overwhelmed today than ever. The daily challenges they face can be highly stressful and can lead to significant impairments in self-esteem, family relationships, school functioning, friendships, and other important areas of life. My ultimate goals as a therapist are to help young people find good life balance and develop a sense of peace within themselves. I have 30 plus years experience in counseling for both mental health and substance abuse. I have taught at the University Of Pittsburgh School of Social Work for four years and have won numerous awards of excellence during my counseling career.

College can be a wild mix of freedom and stress... with friend drama, missing home but wanting independence, figuring out what you want to do with your life, financial pressure, loneliness when friend groups shift, and the everyday weight of adult responsibilities starting to pile up. It’s a lot to carry, and it makes sense if you’re feeling stuck, anxious, or unsure how to handle it all. And then, when you’re finally ready to reach out for support, finding a therapist can feel like another full-time assignment. Scrolling through endless profiles feels a little like online dating... you’re reading way too many bios, everyone sounds kind of the same, and you’re left wondering who you’ll actually click with. Our practice specializes in treating eating disorders in young adults, offering a compassionate and evidence-based approach rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). We provide individualized care for clients struggling with anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, and other disordered eating behaviors. We also work with Anxiety and Mood disorders. Clients learn to identify and challenge distorted thoughts around food, body image or other presenting stressors. DBT techniques are used to build emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness. The integrative approach supports young adults in developing healthier coping strategies, improving self-esteem, and fostering lasting recovery in a supportive and nonjudgmental environment.
My clients experience sadness and anxiety and adjustment to leaving home and college. Transitions are difficult and they need coaching and mentoring as well as counseling. Meeting new people roommates and classes are major stressors. Students get overwhelmed. Students who I see also worry about managing the social aspects as well.
