I have over 20 years of experience in mental health and has worked in a variety of settings including community mental health, school based therapy, higher education and independent practice. I began my career working with children and families who experienced abuse, neglect and other traumas. Through this challenging work, I was extensively trained in the treatment of trauma and developed a philosophy of therapy that supports each individual where they are and focuses on their resilience and capacity to heal. In addition to trauma informed practices, I have training in the following areas: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Art and Play Therapy techniques, Mindfulness, Tele-Health Practices, Family Systems and Attachment Theory. I have experience with the following clinical concerns: stress management, depression, anxiety, mood regulation, social anxiety, relationship and family distress, attention and motivation challenges, self-esteem, perfectionism, and grief. I have a particular passion for helping individuals develop healthy boundaries and heal from toxic relationships.

I empower individuals to discover their resiliency, harness the energy of their anxiety in productive ways, and better manage negative unhelpful worry thinking. Anxiety results in the space between overestimating the probability of danger AND underestimating your ability to cope with it. My philosophy for healing is that everyone has strength and resiliency to cope with much more than they could imagine, and through therapy you discover those strengths and how to implement them. I have worked with hundreds of clients in 15+ years as a licensed therapist. Having been an active duty military spouse for 20 years, I have been licensed in 6 states and have vast experience providing therapy to diverse populations in numerous settings with various needs. This led me to a path of focusing more on primary anxiety conditions (such as general anxiety, panic, phobias) to secondary anxiety (from ADHD, autism, sensory integration) to justifiable external stressors (for example, societal, environmental, financial). I use research-proven Virtual Reality Immersion Therapy (VRIT), biofeedback, mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques, Solution-Focused Therapy techniques, and other evidence based models to help clients face fears and anxieties in customized imaginal and constructed virtual environments while teaching the coping skills of mindfulness, thought restructuring, and regulating body sensations. I offer weekend and evening hours, as well as the option for secure messaging and video contact between sessions for established clients. Hey there! I’m Sonya, a Board Certified Art Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor, and Board Certified Transgender Care Specialist licensed in Pennsylvania. I enjoy working with members of the LGBTQIA2+ community and specialize in providing gender affirming care to gender expansive, non-binary and trans individuals, as well as BIPOC individuals with diverse multicultural and racial backgrounds and those from the diaspora. I am a child of immigrants, "third-culture kid", and specialize in working with first and second generation immigrants and racial and cultural minority members who have been impacted by harmful cultural narratives, intergenerational trauma, and who have experiences feeling “othered.” I am guided by a feminist and person centered approach that prioritizes an exploration of our intersecting identities, and value the healing power of exploratory and respectful conversation that acknowledges the effects oppression and colonialism have on mental health. I approach therapy from a lens of non-judgmental curiosity and strive to bring humility, humor and creativity into our shared space. I utilize art making and expressive therapies to help facilitate greater self-acceptance, self-confidence, personal growth, and to empower you to create positive change. I believe art making has the power to heal and the magic to transform. My goal is to create a safe, affirming and warm environment for you and if you’d like, to guide you in the art making process to help you feel empowered to create change. I hope to make your journey in therapy validating, supportive, and strive to make you feel heard, understood, and accepted. It would be an honor and privilege to work with you.

I DO TELEHEALTH I work with people struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship problems, grief and loss and bipolar disorder, school/work adjustment and stress. You might feel overwhelmed and alone with so many obligations and responsibilities. Maybe you are under constant pressure and you don't see room for change. It's hard to see a possibility for change when you keep looking at the problem with one perspective, your own perspective. Let's talk about it, you are not alone. I have years experience in community health and private practice. I've worked with people at all levels of function, resources, financial support or crisis. The one true constant for those people I've been fortunate enough to work with is that personal resources are already inside them. Sometimes people have trouble accessing these strengths or they may be burred by noisy negative self-talk, worn out or unhelpful ideas about ourselves and other emotional baggage. I'm here to help so give me a call. I am currently offering telehealth sessions and this is covered by most insurances.

As a therapist, I strive to provide my patients with a balance of validation and challenge. When we feel stuck, it can seem impossible to take action and make change. Together, we can explore your strengths and how those can guide you through your fears and anxieties. I utilize a strength-based, trauma-focused approach that is designed to treat you as an individual, with all the unique experiences and perspectives you bring to the therapy setting.

College and early adulthood can feel like a lot. You’re building your future, navigating relationships, managing expectations — and trying to keep it all together. Stress, anxiety, depression, burnout, breakups, and big life transitions are common, but that doesn’t mean you have to handle them alone. Therapy with me is real, supportive, and judgment-free. I focus on creating a space where you can be yourself, talk honestly about what’s weighing on you, and learn practical tools to feel more grounded and confident. I previously worked with college students and young adults at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in an Intensive Outpatient Program, supporting clients through anxiety, depression, and major life stressors. If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or just not like yourself, let’s talk. Reaching out can be the first step toward feeling better.

We have worked hard to make our practice a place to be brave in telling your story. We listen. We challenge, We curse. We laugh. We cry. We are real. When you sit with your therapist and tell them whats going on - you will be seen, valued and heard. We work with clients who struggle with relationships, the shift to college, becoming an adult, family stuff, neurodivergence, addiction and substance use, struggles with fitting in and making friends, college stress, feelings of grief and loss, anxiety, trauma, identity crisis, struggles around gender and identity, depression…. Basically if you are dealing with it, we can likely help with it. Our therapists strive to be ethical and supportive as they join you in your journey of discovery and healing. Therapy can be a scary thing to start and we want to be there in it with you, every step of the way. Our clinicians are highly educated and continue in training long after graduation in order to bring you the most appropriate and skilled interventions and treatment. We are an affirming and anti-racist practice. We believe in promoting social justice and that all clients deserve a space where they can be authentic and transparent without fearing judgement.
