Therapists for college students near Temple University
🌟 Embodied Hope For Your Journey to Healing and Growth 🌟 Dealing with trauma can be really tough, whether it's from a specific event or something that's been with you for a long time. It can affect so many parts of your life, from your mental health to your relationships to your sleep. Doing it all while keeping up with classes? That's exhausting. It helps to have someone who knows trauma work and can support you while you gauge how to pace your healing process. I provide therapy for many different types of trauma: emotional neglect, abuse, combat, complex PTSD, intimate partner violence, sexual assault/harassment, bullying, accidents, medical illness, pregnancy/birth, and toxic relationships. I'm experienced in gold standard therapies for trauma, nightmares, insomnia, anxiety, and OCD. It's important to me to help people to understand and work with - not in spite of - their nervous system. I've been through a lot of different experiences in my career, working in hospital and outpatient settings. Real progress comes from having a place where our nervous system can gradually rebuild a sense of safety, grow in flexibility, and practice new learning. My goal is to make therapy that kind of a place. I believe in using therapy strategies that are proven to be effective, but that doesn't mean sessions have to be rigid or boring. Depending on the client, I'll pull in painting, novels and movies, music, Minecraft, sports, and comedians. I'm also always learning and growing as a therapist to make sure you're getting the best care possible. Although therapy progress isn't always a straight line, learning new skills and ways of thinking almost always has ups and downs. That's completely normal. It's totally understandable if you wish you could feel better right away. I'll do my best to create a fluid plan, tailored just for you, to help you head in that direction. You don't have to be alone. Someone I value once told me that sometimes we carry hope for others until they're ready to pick it back up themselves. Let me know if you'd like to talk about what that might look like for you to be ready to carry your own hope again.
Feeling isolated, depressed, anxious, or just want a non-judgmental person to speak with about the peaks and valleys of life? You're not alone! Therapy utilization is at an all time high in the United States. Just by looking for a therapist, you have done something brave and started your journey to healing. Many of my clients are individuals or couples who are frustrated with patterns that are no longer working for them and are looking for a guide to hold them accountable in reaching their goals. I am a sex and relationships therapist with a background in systemically-focused treatment. This means that I am not afraid to explore topics that many other therapists may shy away from like gender, spirituality, and politics. I also use mindfulness and creative arts therapy techniques to help clients express and understand their emotions. Life can be overwhelming and stressful, but you don't have to deal with it alone. Make the choice to put your wellness first.

I see one of the most important roles as a therapist to be putting in the work to earn someone’s trust and walking beside them as an accomplice on their path towards growth. I don’t believe that people are “broken” or “need to be fixed”, but rather that somewhere within every person lies the capacity to generate change. I believe this change begins by finding someone trustworthy to support them through this process. And—that being kinder and gentler towards ourselves goes a long way to building the foundation for this change to occur. My experiences span across 15 years, with the scope of my direct work supporting clients in their exploration of gender expression/transition, depression, anxiety, trauma, grief/loss and more- all within Allegheny County. I am also happy to provide evaluations and letters for Gender Affirming surgeries, Green Card Status, and Emotional Support Animals. The world is an often hard place to be, and my goal is to create a space for softness to occur. To not only listen but to hear and understand. To respect through accountability. To address struggles through processing and also through action leading to systemic change.

Are you emotionally exhausted, experiencing unsettling transitions or struggling with feelings of depression, anxiety or grief? Are you coping with toxicity within your relationships or having difficulties adjusting to the demands of academic life? My clients learn to use their suffering as guiding information, identifying imbalances and creating a greater impetus toward life change. I serve those seeking a deeper understanding and mastery of their life journey. We will work to increase intimacy and alignment with the core of your essential, authentic self. The archetypal language taps into the universal motivational patterns inherent in both the individual and collective psyches. Utilizing astrological theory specifically allows us to see pinnacle moments of growth potential evident throughout the life cycle, allowing for more conscious use of our efforts toward self-betterment and greater management of our unique motivational personality structure. With that, this theory underlies the tenets of a meaningful and synchronistic universe which can be collaborated with to co-create a more purposeful life and to help with radical acceptance of the things we cannot change. We may use this approach, along with other interventions, to help identify and integrate the disowned parts of the self which lead to recurrent negative patterns. I also specialize in treating victims of narcissistic abuse as they heal from relational trauma and learn to seek self-validation and challenge co-dependencies, honoring one's own limits and divesting from the toxic dynamics within relationships. I have a Masters Degree in Social Work (2006) and practice as a Telehealth Licensed Clinical Social Worker in CT and PA. I also have certification in Conscious Evolution in Archetypal Cosmology via the Graduate Institute (2011), in Archetypal Astrology and Cosmology via the Institute of Transpersonal and Archetypal Studies (2019) and a Certificate in Applied Archetypal Astrology from Pacifica Graduate Institute (2023). I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and a Certified Clinical Telemental Health Provider (CTMH).

Opening up is no small thing, but it's also the fundamental thing that gives folks relief. To this end, I try to make therapy a natural process and most of my clients say that I feel like "talking to a real person." I developed my style by working with university students on a number of campuses who taught me to drop the artificial formalities, ask deeper questions, be upfront with my care, and say what I mean. In general, I start from the standpoint that anyone seeking therapy has come by their pain honestly and that much of what folx find distressing in themselves is a reasonable response to what has happened to them. Thus, I am unlikely to give rote advice and more likely to partner with you in unpacking your past, exploring your feelings, reaching creative solutions, and lifting what's blocking you from moving toward your version of the good life. In terms of specialties, I help students work through the kinds of relationship troubles (family, romantic, friendships etc) that leave people feeling lonely, anxious, inadequate, seeking approval, depressed, misunderstood, self-critical, or slow to let others in. Queer folx, Student Veterans, adult children of alcoholics, overachievers, burnt out students, undergrad, law, medical, and grad students, young professionals, and folks in creative fields have found me helpful. Importantly, for therapy to be a liberating space, people need the freedom to talk about how their lives are shaped by their sociocultural identities as well as corresponding experiences of prejudice, marginalization, and erasure. Conversations about politics, class, race, religion, gender, sexuality and all the "isms" are fair game and also integral to figuring out how to live with more ease in these difficult times.
We provide a safe, caring environment with only top-rated specialists. We provide secure online therapy & counseling that fits your life. With a results-based, individualized approach, our goal is to help you heal and become happy again.
My practice primarily serves LGBTQ+, queer, trans, and gender-expansive adults, alongside individuals navigating complex trauma, relational patterns, and perinatal mental health concerns. My clinical approach is supportive, affirming, trauma-informed, and grounded in relational and attachment-based frameworks. I integrate an awareness of how systems of power, identity, and lived experience shape mental health, and I strive to hold both individual healing and broader context in view. I have specialized focus in complex trauma, including childhood trauma, relational trauma, and attachment wounds. Many of my clients are exploring identity development, processing experiences of minority stress, or seeking a therapeutic space where they can fully express their gender and sexual identities without needing to justify or defend them. I also provide affirming care for individuals during pregnancy, postpartum transitions, fertility challenges, pregnancy loss, and other reproductive experiences. I am particularly mindful of the unique emotional and systemic considerations that may arise for LGBTQ+ individuals and families during these periods. While no therapeutic space can be perfectly free from the impact of broader social forces, I am deeply committed to creating a therapy environment that feels brave, collaborative, and respectful. I engage in ongoing consultation, supervision, and continuing education to support culturally responsive and identity-affirming care. My work is guided by trauma-informed principles, a commitment to equity and inclusion, and respect for client autonomy and self-determination. I view therapy as a collaborative process where clients are supported in deepening self-understanding, strengthening resilience, and moving toward meaningful change.
Do you experience hypervigilance? panic? overwhelm? avoidance? unexplained physical symptoms? Many of my clients didn't realize that their symptoms of anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and relationship struggles stem from trauma. Trauma isn't just something soldiers experience — it encompasses so many different life experiences. I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to get at the root of your symptoms, rather than putting a bandaid on them for a temporary fix. I'm trained in EMDR 2.0 and the Four Blinks Flash technique, and I use advanced EMDR software to work effectively with clients online. I also offer Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) for clients ready to go deeper when talk therapy has reached its limits, along with Internal Family Systems (IFS) and ADHD-informed therapy. I've worked extensively with people in the LGBTQ+ community. If you're interested in working together, reach out to schedule a free 15-minute consultation — we can decide if we're a good fit. You are making an amazing and brave step in your healing journey!

This might include developing concrete coping skills, exploring issues from your past, or identifying choice point for living differently. Through an empowering relationship, my hope is to help you gain self-acceptance and clarity about your life situation. I will integrate aspects of interpersonal, feminist, and acceptance commitment therapy. My style is curious, compassionate, and engaged. I have experience working with of most ages and common presenting concerns. I also welcome those who are seeking a therapist with special understanding of identity concerns, gender and sexuality, relationships, ADHD, those struggling socially from mild-moderate autism, and those who might self-identify as neurodivergent. Outside of my work, I enjoy hiking, running, rock climbing, making art, and loving on my cats. I am currently a doctoral student in clinical psychology, am supervised by licensed psychologist Dr. Todd R. Avellar, and provide services via a low-cost “sliding-scale” basis.
Art Therapy is for everyone! I am comfortable working with individuals from diverse cultures, beliefs and existences, and feel that being accepting, objective, respectful, and genuine are characteristics essential in a therapist; I strive to bring an inclusive and multicultural spirit to my work. Art Therapy provides an excellent catalyst for the expression of thoughts and feelings, and helps to find hidden meanings in your life; as your therapist I am here to assist with making sense of images and finding ways to manage feelings and issues. My inclination is to invite a spirit of fierce self-acceptance and self-compassion; to help change the negative, anxious, narrative to one of gentleness, forgiving, and yes, even loving.
