I work with young adults as they move through life transitions and challenges like anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and chronic illness. I provide my clients with tools to understand and regulate emotions, improve relationships, and work towards goals. I use a holistic approach that acknowledges the mind-body connection. I'm also trained in EMDR to help you heal from past trauma.
Although we cannot change our past, we can acknowledge its impact. We can change how we view our past and ourselves. While working with clients, I encourage expression to gain self-awareness and to reshape narratives. Expression is essential in everyday life, especially when working through difficult times, such as grief and trauma. I practice therapy with a person-centered, trauma-informed, strength based approach to meet clients where they are and to help them make changes to start the healing process. For some clients, verbal expression can be difficult. Creative expression can demonstrate one’s thoughts and feelings in a tangible way. Art Therapy can be helpful in exploring one’s thoughts and feelings and fostering self-awareness. As an Art Therapist, I have the ability and knowledge to bring artmaking into the therapy session and to help facilitate the healing process. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Board-Certified Registered Art Therapist (ATR-BC). I have many years of experience helping people with trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, body image, self-esteem, and addiction. I have experience practicing therapeutic techniques of Trauma Informed Care, CBT, DBT, and MI, as well as Crisis Intervention. I am available for in person sessions, as well as telehealth/virtual sessions.
I welcome teens and adults to my practice. There are many reasons that lead to the decision to seek therapy, and I believe in meeting you where you are in this process. Empathy, compassion, and patience are the foundation of my practice. I believe in utilizing the power of the therapeutic relationship in combination with a variety of evidence based practices to empower clients to learn the tools they need to work towards their goals. I use mindfulness based practices, calling on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help individuals better understand themselves and develop strategies to navigate life's stressors. I have experience working with individuals with relationship issues, anxiety, depression, adjustment concerns, and chronic health conditions. I have specialized training working with college students as well as individuals with histories of trauma and relational challenges.

It was at PSU that I decided that I wanted to help others. After graduating from the Human Development and Family Studies program, I decided to further my education by attending graduate school at Loyola University Maryland. There I obtained my Master's in Counseling Psychology and completed additional coursework so that I could eventually become a Licensed Professional Counselor. Over the last 16 years I have had the pleasure of working with children, teens, young adults and adults. I have experience working with college students and understand the unique pressures that PhD candidates face. I strive to provide an environment that clients feel safe, supported, and validated. In turn, this will lead to a positive therapeutic relationship in which self-reflection and processing can take place. My goal is for you to recognize your strengths uncover your hidden potential. Helping people feel more connected, alive and easeful in a difficult world is what excites me about the therapeutic process. While living with mental health challenges, it is difficult to know how to get unstuck or even to remember a time when things felt okay. I work collaboratively with clients to build on their strengths and identify goals that align with their values. We all develop strategies for survival that can be limiting over time. We can create more options that go beyond old strategies through practicing new ways of relating, recognizing nervous system patterns and strengthening the mind-body connection. Some of the approaches and techniques I use include parts work, attachment theory, mind-body therapy, guided visualization, somatic and movement based therapy. I am trauma focused and informed with an understanding of how systemic oppression contributes to illness, especially for those whose identities are devalued or erased.

Life is difficult; making sense of challenges and choices can be complicated. Times of stress can tax every relationship, even the relationship with our self. As a Professional Counselor my goal is to create a relationship in which you can feel comfortable exploring your thoughts and emotions, assisting in discovering new opportunities for growth and change. In therapy we will cultivate, explore, and direct that change, working together to promote more authentic and satisfying ways of living. We will build a treatment plan and relationship that uniquely suits you, joining in understanding your past, paying attention to your embodied way of living, and creating new ways of being, socializing, and thinking. We all deserve happiness and understanding. Let’s clear the path to these together.

Being human can be confusing, overwhelming and painful. Despite this predicament, I believe therapy can help shed the feeling of a constricted life and achieve an authentic and empowered sense of self. Through a collaborative and compassion-centered approach, I aim to help hold in a non-judgmental space the challenging parts of life and encourage next steps in your journey. The technique I use most often is trauma-sensitive mindfulness combined with concepts and methods from CBT, DBT and MI while applying lenses such as attachment, familial, cultural, generational and that of global systems.
I am pleased that you are here. I know it is not easy to take this first step, but I want you to know first and foremost, that I take great care and pride in creating a safe place for my clients to talk about their internal conflicts, interpersonal problems, traumas, and whatever is interfering with living a fuller, richer life. I bring to my clinical practice a great deal of skills coupled with passion to engage in a meaningful therapeutic relationship. I invite clients to increase their self-awareness while aspiring to high levels of wellness: biologically, psychologically, relationally, sexually and spiritually. I offer a safe space free of judgment, filled with compassion and kindness towards your own process. My theoretical orientation to counseling is rooted in humanistic theories with underlying existentialism and phenomenological philosophies. I firmly believe in the therapeutic alliance and its curative power, in addition to striving to look at all situations from a sex positive, non-shaming, and non-judgmental lens.
