Therapists for college students near University of Minnesota
I work with folks looking to understand their own identity. Whether that be in relation to themself or others. Balancing life as an emerging adult while being a college student can be overwhelming. I specialize in working with folks who are queer, trans, gender expansive, and neurodivergent. I am trained in a trauma therapy called EMDR, which can help people who have experienced traumatic events to find healing. I support folks in finding skills for regulating their emotions, sitting in the discomfort of hard feelings, and being more present in their day to day life.

Do you feel exhausted from trying to hold everything together? Maybe you have always been the responsible one or the person others rely on. You pushed through stress, anxiety, and family challenges because you felt like you had to. At first it seemed manageable, but now the pressure feels heavier and harder to carry. On the outside you appear confident and put together. Inside you might feel overwhelmed, burnt out, or worried that you cannot keep this up much longer. Wanting a break does not mean you are failing. It means you are human. I’m Sara, and I help students who are tired of perfectionism, constant pressure, and the weight of expectations. I work with people who want healthier relationships, better communication, and support as they process past experiences that still affect them today. My background includes ACT, CBT, TF-CBT, Brainspotting, and group therapy training, which allows me to tailor our work to what you need. In our sessions, you can expect a warm, honest, and real environment where you can finally let your guard down. I show up as myself so you can feel comfortable showing up as yourself too. You deserve a space where you can put down the pressure you have been carrying and focus on feeling grounded, supported, and hopeful. I am here to help you get there.

College and young adult years can be both exciting and overwhelming. Many students and young adults find themselves managing anxiety, depression, or grief while also trying to keep up with academic demands, relationships, work, and expectations from family or themselves. Feeling stressed, burned out, unmotivated, or emotionally drained does not mean you are failing — it means you are human and navigating a lot at once. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling. I work with college students, young adults, and adolescents using a client-centered, goal-oriented approach. Therapy is a collaborative process where we focus on what feels most pressing for you and develop practical strategies to help you cope more effectively with stress, emotions, and life transitions. I support individuals experiencing: * Anxiety and depression related to academic pressure, performance stress, and major life changes * Grief and loss, including losses that occur during college or early adulthood * Emotional overwhelm, burnout, difficulty with focus, and feeling “stuck” or disconnected * Relationship and family stress, especially as roles, independence, and boundaries shift * Autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and behavioral concerns in adolescents and young adults I use evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and stress-reduction techniques to help clients build coping skills, improve emotional regulation, and gain clarity during challenging seasons. Therapy should feel supportive, nonjudgmental, and empowering. Whether this is your first time seeking counseling or you are returning to therapy, my goal is to create a space where you feel heard, understood, and supported as you work toward balance, confidence, and improved well-being.

You can out-think nearly any problem, situation, or person. You are innovative, curious, and perceptive and your intellect has helped you achieve most of your goals. Yet relationships prove difficult, and when you aren't able to think your way out, you retreat into your mind and detach from others. You become more cynical, abrasive, and nihilistic. Your intelligence has shielded you from difficult questions related to your functioning in relationships with others. You want the same sense of satisfaction and value in relationships that you experience nearly everywhere else. You need a judgment-free place to make meaning through the exploration of your life circumstances, beliefs, and values. I encourage deep thinking and questioning. I won't give you worksheets, and I won't try to align your desires and fears with that of the masses. I appreciate your individuality and encourage you to call forth your inventive, independent, and curious self to all areas of life. It is not enough to just observe and study life, you must participate as well. I'm ready when your are.

Therapy becomes a collaborative experience where we navigate life's complexities. I understand the importance of attachment and culture in each person's life and bring these unique elements in to the sessions. Therapy is a partnership and I am here to walk through the journey together!
I’m a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, sarcastic human, & fellow unrooter. In a few words, my style is down to earth, collaborative, and relational. Laughter = therapeutic; swearing = basically a pre-req. Oftentimes, the universe seems to enjoy throwing curveballs right when life starts to settle. And it can be damn helpful to have a safe space to sort through it all. I join clients in navigating these ‘unexpecteds’ and strengthening into their ‘you’ in the process.
