Making the decision to come to therapy can be a powerful one. I support individuals navigating the various pressures and stresses in their lives. I specialize in working with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, and perfectionism. In session, clients feel a space free of judgment where they can reconnect with their authentic selves. With that in mind, I approach sessions in a collaborative way with the hopes of building self-esteem and personal agency. In our sessions, you'll feel like you're part of a team and not up against the problem alone. I also help college students, young working professionals, and athletes manage all that comes with being in a high-pressured environment. My own experience as a collegiate athlete taught me the values of teamwork, resilience, and overcoming anxiety and self-doubt-- all qualities I aim to pass along to my clients. For all clients, mindfulness may be an important part of our work. I bring in tools from Dialectical Behavior Therapy as well as traditional talk therapy to help you establish healthy boundaries, control overwhelming emotions, and stay grounded in the present moment. I also have a special interest in working with athletes transitioning to life after their sports career. My training as a yoga teacher helps me to deeply understand the mind-body connection, and how identity can get tied up athletic performance. I’ll help you develop a new daily routine, find meaningful ways to incorporate exercise at a lower level, manage fluctuating mood, and develop strong relationships outside of sports. Our sessions will feel like you are supported in taking action steps in your life. I am here to listen and provide accountability with changes you are hoping to make in your life.

I support people in learning how to take charge of their anxiety by better understanding the physical and cognitive aspects of anxiety and developing a wide array of coping skills. Managing stress and anxiety is also about learning to set boundaries for yourself and others. I also help people with anxiety-based disorders such as OCD and social anxiety. I also help clients recovery from narcissistic/toxic abuse. My practice is a holistic approach which focuses on my clients' strengths and how to use them to their advantage in managing their mental health.
My name is Sheri Cheng and I am a pre-licensed mental health counselor seeing clients in-office or through telehealth. I earned my Master's in Mental Health Counseling from Boston College and have years of experience working with young adults in educational and therapeutic settings. I have worked with a variety of diagnoses including depression, anxiety, ADHD, and autism in individual and group therapy. My specialties include social skills development, emotional regulation, and strengthening interpersonal relationships. I am committed to a strengths-based and trauma-informed lens to create a welcoming and safe therapeutic environment. I use diverse, evidence-based approaches including acceptance and commitment therapy, person-centered, and solution-focused theories.
If you are seeking to gain deeper insight into your patterns of behavior, strengthen your relationships, and create meaningful, lasting change, you have come to the right place. I work with young adults, adults, and couples with specialized experience in treating anxiety and mood disorders, trauma and PTSD, OCD, as well as interpersonal and relational challenges. I believe therapy should be personalized rather than “one size fits all.” Therefore, building trust and cultivating a strong therapeutic relationship are central to my approach. Drawing from attachment-based and psychodynamic perspectives, I help individuals understand how past experiences shape the present. I also integrate skills from evidence-based treatments, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), to support emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, cognitive flexibility, and behavioral change. I earned my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Mental Health Studies from New York University. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at Mount Sinai Services/Elmhurst Hospital, where I received intensive training in providing individual and couples therapy for a wide range of mental health concerns, and my post-doctoral training at the Center for Anxiety, a private practice setting where I deepened my expertise in evidence-based treatment. My prior clinical training includes placements at Weill Cornell Medical Center/NewYork-Presbyterian and the Parnes Clinic, where I specialized in the treatment of anxiety, OCD, trauma, and relational challenges. My doctoral research examined the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health severity, further strengthening my commitment to understanding how individuals adapt and recover in times of crisis. In addition to my clinical work, I serve as a supervising psychologist, supporting the professional growth and development of emerging clinicians. Patients often describe me as warm, compassionate, and collaborative, while also appreciating my honesty, directness, and willingness to challenge unhelpful beliefs.I ask thoughtful, meaningful questions designed to foster insight and help individuals better understand their internal experiences. I bring humor and presence into sessions, working alongside patients to identify patterns, build insight, and move toward growth, healing, and their most meaningful goals.
I love clients who are curious about themselves and their relationships and are just looking for a safe place to talk. I bring much the same warmth, humor, and energy to my work that I do to my friendships. I'll remember your birthday and the name of the pet you had growing up, and the fact that you were anxious about that text you got last week. If you're anxious about therapy, or have had a bad experience in the past, that's a great place to start, and if you're ready to dive in, we can do that too.

Your present need not be your future! Life isn’t always easy. Today you may be anxious, depressed, stuck, overwhelmed, flunking out, and/or obsessed. Tomorrow can be different. The path to a better future may involve courageously exploring emotions or it may involve learning and practicing new habits or strategies. Sometimes little changes cause dramatic results. My specialty is working with you to determine what will work best for you. To this task I bring great depth and breadth of experience. I was actually a college dropout before I became a Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist after first becoming an Educational & Career Counselor & then applying my knowledge & skills on myself. I’ve been in private practice as a therapist for over 30 years, have consulted to hospitals for decades as a Clinical Neuropsychologist, taught the graduate course Neuropsychology to psychology doctoral students for 18 years, created the graduate course Nutrition, Brain and Behavior, provided lectures on neuropsychology for medical students and residents through Harvard Medical School’s Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and created many continuing education courses for psychologists and lectured college counselors nationwide on improving college performance. I’ve done thousands of assessments encompassing ADHD, learning disability, autism, memory disorders, executive dysfunction, anxiety disorders and depression, yet, despite this I do not think in terms of these labels. Most sessions begin with screening not to assign a diagnosis but determination of the type of psychotherapy or lifestyle changes with which you are likely to feel most comfortable. Take the first step towards a better tomorrow.
Hi and welcome! I have over 10 years of experience providing psychotherapy. I take time to create a safe and inviting space with focus on the therapeutic relationship. I provide a non-judgmental, trauma informed, holistic and caring approach with a splash of humor. If you feel as though you are suffering, that life feels meaningless or hopeless, that no one understands what it is like to be you and walk in your shoes, or that you're feeling overwhelmed, reach out today, there is a way to heal and find relief and you don't have to do it alone.
Discovery Strength. Find Healing. Obsessing about food and your body is overwhelming. It’s time to break FREE and find balance in your life. At Strength & Healing, we are here to support you on your journey to feeling like you are enough – just as you are. Because it’s time to kick those constant thoughts and obsessions about food, weight, and negative self-image to the curb. It may not feel like freedom is possible right now and we aren’t saying it won’t take work, but we are saying that YOU are worth it!
I work collaboratively with students who face a variety of challenges, including life transitions, relationship issues, and navigating queer identities. College and graduate school typically occur at pivotal developmental points for people in terms of figuring out who they are, what they want, and separating/individuating from parental figures. Together, we will work to understand your inner life, what works and what doesn't in terms of your thinking, behavior and ways of relating to others. Often, patterns develop that help us stay safe and secure when we're young, but would benefit from re-examination and modification to live a more fulfilling adult life. I have a sub-specialty working with people with Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), a highly distressing fixation on a perceived appearance defect that can impact daily functioning and quality of life. I help you understand where the appearance fixation originated, including negative self appraisals and rituals/compulsions that accompany BDD. Learning to face feared and avoided situations is a gradual process that takes place over time, freeing you from the hold of BDD and leading to improved functioning and a more satisfying life.
