Sometimes along our journeys we learn ways of thinking and feeling that aren’t most helpful to us later on. I offer an opportunity to consider unlearning what isn’t serving us and to find new ways of thinking. Other times, we’d all just benefit from an extra layer of support; time set aside that’s all ours. Most of all, the work we do will allow you to feel some relief, comfort, connection, the opportunity to experience positive feelings, and sit with the hard ones. I offer therapy to adults struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, obsessive thoughts, trauma, grief, career challenges, and motherhood. I specialize in treating disordered eating and body image concerns. I work extensively with runners. I practice a holistic approach and am skilled in meditation, yoga, mindfulness, and coping techniques. I understand that the best therapy happens when you and your therapist are a great fit. I offer a compassionate, thoughtful, and effective approach. I believe in the healing power of animals and my bulldog, Olive, joins us for sessions.

Our practice provides psychoanalytic psychotherapy. A psychoanalytic approach to treatment offers a comprehensive and nuanced framework for addressing trauma, anxiety, depression, identity struggles, self-esteem, and a sense of self. If advisable, we can also provide careful expert medication management that is informed by our therapeutic work together. Our approach facilitates an environment where people are able to communicate their thoughts, feelings, and wishes in a setting that is inherently collaborative, caring, and non-judgemental. A strong therapeutic relationship is the most powerful means of treatment and developing this alliance is an essential priority for me.

Hi, I'm Dr. Annie Moten. Since earning my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Rutgers University, I have approached therapy as a collaborative journey, walking alongside my clients to help them understand their experiences without judgment. My goal is to support individuals in creating a life that acknowledges both their pain and their potential for growth. I strive to build trust through straightforwardness, kindness, irreverence, and humor, creating a space that is both safe and empowering. Drawing on my extensive DBT training and lived experience, I foster emotional containment and autonomy. I also incorporate creative outlets. Our approach at Better Life Associates is active and collaborative. We believe that a strong working alliance with our patients is critical to help achieve emotional insights in treatment that lead to positive and lasting change. We also help identify patterns of behavior that hold individuals back from leading a better and more fulfilling life. Whether you are seeking in-person treatment in Long Island, NY or teletherapy in NY, NJ, or PA, I'd be delighted to hear from you. I have limited therapy session times currently available in my schedule, so let's set up an initial preliminary call soon to discuss how we can work together.
Opening up is no small thing, but it's also the fundamental thing that gives folks relief. To this end, I try to make therapy a natural process and most of my clients say that I feel like "talking to a real person." I developed my style by working with university students on a number of campuses who taught me to drop the artificial formalities, ask deeper questions, be upfront with my care, and say what I mean. In general, I start from the standpoint that anyone seeking therapy has come by their pain honestly and that much of what folx find distressing in themselves is a reasonable response to what has happened to them. Thus, I am unlikely to give rote advice and more likely to partner with you in unpacking your past, exploring your feelings, reaching creative solutions, and lifting what's blocking you from moving toward your version of the good life. In terms of specialties, I help students work through the kinds of relationship troubles (family, romantic, friendships etc) that leave people feeling lonely, anxious, inadequate, seeking approval, depressed, misunderstood, self-critical, or slow to let others in. Queer folx, Student Veterans, adult children of alcoholics, overachievers, burnt out students, undergrad, law, medical, and grad students, young professionals, and folks in creative fields have found me helpful. Importantly, for therapy to be a liberating space, people need the freedom to talk about how their lives are shaped by their sociocultural identities as well as corresponding experiences of prejudice, marginalization, and erasure. Conversations about politics, class, race, religion, gender, sexuality and all the "isms" are fair game and also integral to figuring out how to live with more ease in these difficult times.
Hello, I'm Rebecca Taylor, Psy.D., a Licensed Psychologist in private practice in Pittsburgh and providing services across Pennsylvania. I have over 15 years of experience working with students at the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon, Duquesne, and Purdue University. I enjoy working with graduate and non-traditional students who: ~ are going through life transitions, like starting graduate school or preparing for what comes after graduation ~ want support for decision-making around career/academic focus ~ want to figure out how to have healthy, satisfying relationships with family, friends, and/or a partner ~ are interested in interfaith/interracial dialog, the acculturation process, and multicultural concerns ~ cope with a health problem, disability, or a body-focused repetitive behavior (like skin picking, hair pulling, or other BFRB) ~ are learning intuitive eating and ways to care for their physical body ~ want support for grief and loss ~ feel anxious, depressed, or stressed out ~ have panic and/or anxiety symptoms Together, we’ll explore what matters to you the most and address your concerns. In this process, you can decide if and what changes you want to make. And you can do it at a pace and in ways that fit you best. My clients describe me as warm, respectful, and able to tailor therapy to their unique circumstances. My relationship centered integrated approach combines: ~ Humanistic/Person-Centered ~ Gestalt, Mindfulness, and Mind-Body ~ Experiential and Expressive Therapies ~ Empirically-Supported/Research-Based Treatments ~ CBT--Cognitive Behavior Therapy ~ DBT--Dialectical Behavior Therapy ~ ComB--Comprehensive Behavior Therapy and Habit Rehearsal Training for body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) ~ EMDR--Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ~ Other approaches as indicated, like motivational interviewing and the transtheoretical approach to change. One of the things that characterizes my work as a psychologist is that I am also a National Board Certified Occupational Therapist (OTR). I know first-hand what it takes to go back to school and change careers. After studying and working as an occupational therapist for several years, I decided to expand my skills and expertise by becoming a psychologist. My varied professional experiences share some commonalities and have allowed me to develop my interest in listening, understanding people, being present and mindful, seeing people from a holistic perspective, and exploring what gives meaning to life. While I don’t know the specific challenges you are facing, I know first-hand some of the pressures that face graduate students, traditional, and non-traditional students. I’d be curious to hear what you are facing. I would like to offer you a free phone consultation so that we can determine if we are a good therapeutic match. You can contact me by phone or email to set up a time to speak. I make every effort to protect your privacy.
