I help people feel better and improve their lives with music psychotherapy. If you are suffering from anxiety, depression, addiction or everyday stress with relationships, work or family. If you want a fluid and creative approach to therapy that helps you go deep to the core of your issues, I can help. I am particularly passionate about working with those who identify as LGBTQIA+, especially trans and GNC folx. In a world full of stigma, with so much pressure to conform to a heteronormative society, being trans or GNC can be an isolating and scary experience. I can help you on your journey to become your true self.
Hey, glad you're here! Being a student is not just about education, is it? We've got lives outside of school, and all those moving parts can get us feeling overwhelmed, going a million miles per hour all the time, burnt out, lost, unmotivated, or even just numb. I work best with clients who are open to feedback, stay consistent in their care, and stay curious to explore different perspectives of their narrative. AKA, all I ask is that you show up to this space that I will prepare for you in which you can be totally you. Without the filters, photoshop, and all the overthinking of what the "right" thing to say is. You don't have to hold onto everything you're going through alone. Let's speak it out and game plan together on a weekly basis. If you feel like you don't even have the language to describe your experience, that's okay! We can build from the ground up. Maybe it'll help to think of it like this: I'm offering therapy like a key to a secret room that no one else has access to but you and I. You can learn and master skills in our therapeutic space, and it won't impact the real world at all because what happens and is heard in here, stays in here. That could look like role-playing a confrontational discussion you might've been avoiding with your roommate or just even saying an insecurity out loud for the first time and reality-checking it. It also just might be practicing how to say 'No' to different people in your life and finally setting boundaries that actually serve you. Then, when you're ready, you take those skills into the real world, and we watch your life change, perhaps slowly, but surely. Therapist shopping can definitely be overwhelming, so I invite you to get to know me through a 10-minute consultation through Zoom. I'll answer any questions, we'll be able to put a face and voice to the name, and you can feel out the overall vibe!
Born and raised in Manhattan, I help patients overcome stress to achieve satisfaction and peace in their everyday lives. As a board-certified therapist with two Master's Degrees (Psychology & Clinical Social Work) and full state licensure, I have the education and experience necessary to treat folks suffering from anxiety, depression, social isolation, interpersonal conflict, addiction, relationship issues, avoidance issues, grief, and more. I've honed my assessment and intervention skills through years of working in the medical field, having studied under some of the most prominent psychologists and psychiatrists in New York City. My style is relational and empathic, but at times challenging. It is important to me that my patients achieve the best therapeutic results. I employ different modalities of treatment rooted in psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral foundations—I help you understand what goals will most satisfy you, why those goals will satisfy you, and how to achieve them. I have centered my practice around a balance between stoicism and idealism. We only have so much control over what happens in life. I can help you build resilience and anti-fragility in reaction to difficult stimuli. If my services feel like the right fit for you, then please call, text, or email for a free consultation. I look forward to hearing from you.
Mission Liberation Psychotherapy is a private group therapy practice located in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City. Our foundational philosophy is based on the meaningful engagement between the therapist and client and achieved using Carl Rogers’ client-centered techniques of active-listening, empathy, and unconditional positive regard. Liberation Psychotherapy’s primary mission is to help clients explore their experiences thereby clients can heal and grow and embrace their strengths and resiliencies. To honor and respect the uniqueness of our clients, we subscribe broadly to a liberation and integrative model because our attention is drawn to the interplay of the clients’ identities and environments. Liberation is understood through the complex realities and histories in which we are living/having lived through: sociopolitical, economic, cultural. With an integrative approach, our therapists collaborate with clients on which treatment modalities may benefit them and can include: affirmative, bibliotherapy, client-centered, cognitive behavior, creative arts, dialectical behavior therapy, existential, holistic, narrative, psychodynamic, sexology, spiritual, and trauma.
Life is so often filled with stressors, unexpected obstacles, and struggles. We believe that everyone has the power to make great things happen and to grow, heal, and thrive. We are dedicated to providing a caring, nonjudgmental space where you can feel open to sharing vulnerabilities and telling your unique stories. Our therapists seek to help you recognize and build upon your strengths and resiliency to make the changes that matter most to you, to heal from past hurts, and to create greater happiness and fulfillment. We know that change often feels deeply overwhelming and scary, so having someone truly and consistently there for you can make the world of a difference. We meet every client– individuals, couples, and families– where they are, with genuine respect and compassion. Everyone can benefit from support and guidance, and for us, therapy is most effective when grounded in understanding, authenticity, and collaboration that enhance motivation. Our clients come to us with a wide variety of challenges and struggles, past and present. Issues in one area of life inherently and inevitably trickle into others. Together we will seek to more deeply understand the problem and its roots so that feeling of being stuck dissipates and you feel empowered and inspired. We work from a strengths-based, humanistic, holistic lens and incorporate different approaches to support your unique needs and aspirations. Our therapists incorporate individualized treatment approaches including Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, relational, as well as trauma-focused, strengths, and attachment-based therapies. We specialize in several different areas including: Anxiety + Stress, Depression, Trauma, Dating + Relationships, Interpersonal Conflict, Self-Esteem, Life Transitions, Body Image, Grief + Loss, Maternal Mental Health, Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD), Children + Adolescents, Couples Therapy, and Family Therapy. Frances is an autistic/neurodivergent, nonbinary and queer, disabled Taiwanese and Chinese immigrant. Frances works through an integrated person centered, trauma informed, relational, and feminist framework where they meet the client where they are at and co-designs the therapeutic space with clients to allow clients to be able to bring their whole selves in. They approach therapy from the fundamental belief that mental health symptoms are 1. responses to needs not being met and are indicators of larger systemic issues such as surviving under capitalism, living through the climate crisis, and resisting genocidal systems, and 2. differences that have been pathologized by a society that places a human’s worth on their productivity. A person's healing isn't linear and cannot be done in isolation without addressing these existing power structures and institutions. Therefore, Frances works from the perspective that mental health clinicians need to be advocates for systemic change, and is consistently advocating for mental health services to be more accessible for marginalized communities. Frances received their EdM and MA in Counseling Psychology at Teachers College Columbia University. Their previous training included working on an ACT (Assertive Community Treatment) team at the Bridge NY, where they were part of a mobile multidisciplinary treatment team that addressed clients who have fallen out of traditional mental healthcare and experience serious mental health conditions such as schizophrenia/schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, substance use disorders, etc. Frances also has a background of working in NY politics and advocacy at a social services nonprofit, where they mobilized AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander), low income, and immigrant communities to build political power.
My guide in counseling is to create a safe and welcoming environment that promotes autonomy, open and honest communication and support to be who you are, where you are while working on where you want to be. For many, the notion of therapy implies that “something is wrong” when it is quite the opposite. The clarity it takes to acknowledge, accept and receive therapy or ‘mind maintenance’ as I like to call it, means you are self-aware, and there is nothing wrong with that. I specialize in a bad day with academic stress, social anxiety and depression but I can also work with a good day!
I am a psychodynamically focused therapist. I work with college students who are facing a crucial transformation in their lives. Often, the change from high school to college can be overwhelming, isolating, and lonely. My goal is to establish a trusting relationship with you. I hope to create a safe enough space to talk about feelings and thoughts that are difficult to share with family and friends.
