I enjoy collaborating in the therapeutic process, partnering with individuals who are seeking guidance in pursuing wellness and healing. My goal is to create a space for ALL people to feel welcomed and celebrated, and where individuals can work to improve their quality of life. I am a compassionate listener, and I use a Strengths-Based Approach and Cognitive Behavior Therapy to help people find wholeness and continue the process of healing. I am honored to walk alongside clients in their journey toward truth and understanding. When I am not in the office, I enjoy the peace of nature and the encouragement that comes from spending time with loved ones.

As social beings, people need the contact and acceptance of other people. It is not uncommon for people to experience things that disrupt or unravel their lives, and they feel they have no one to turn to who understands or accepts them. Whether this experience is anxiety, depression, stress, life changes, or trauma, my passion is to help individuals find healthy ways of coping and processing the events in their lives. As well as helping people connect with others in more meaningful ways. As everyone is different, I feel there is no single therapeutic approach that works for everyone. Because of this, I have sought training in multiple therapeutic modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). My educational background includes an M.Ed. in Mental Health Counseling from Florida Atlantic University. My Clinical internship was spent in a substance abuse/mental health facility in South Florida, where I worked with military and veteran clients. Before my degree, I enlisted in the United States Airforce and was trained as a Medical Technician/EMT.

I am an associate Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor who sees teens and young adults adults facing a variety of challenges like anxiety, ADHD, depression, relationship issues, life changes and interpersonal conflict. My passion is working with student athletes. As a high school and travel softball coach of several years, I am uniquely qualified in helping young individuals develop mental health skills they can carry with them throughout life, both on and off the field/court. I see the concerns and needs of teens to be unique and require a different approach than one I may take with adults. Overall, I find it important to see individuals for all that they are, helping them to create their identity and see the value within themselves as a person and not just in what they do or how they perform. All people, but especially young people, want to feel heard and seen. I prioritize authenticity and relationship with clients - working to create a comfortable space of trust, understanding, and growth.

Do you feel like you are never good enough and that nothing will get better? Do you feel like you are the only one struggling with intense emotions and that there is no one to help you figure them out? Are you struggling with how you look and/or feel about yourself? Do you think everyone else has their life together and you don't? Do you experience highly intense emotions that seem to scare other people away? Are you excessively drinking alcohol, excessively spending money, isolating yourself from others, having sex but immediately regretting it afterwards? Do you ever have shame surrounding how you feel? Do you feel marginalized or are you part of the LGBTQ+ community? Are you wanting something different and looking for an alternative approach to counseling? Have you been dissatisfied with counseling in your past or hesitant to try? Finding the right therapist for you can be an overwhelming and scary task. The fear of not knowing how a therapist will accept your story can sometimes hold us back from reaching out. I want you to know that I will accept you where you are now AND help you get to where you want to go. I find passion in helping break through barriers associated with mental health, addictions, and identities. I believe that in order to treat an individual, the therapist needs to look at the WHOLE person. I'm here to help you to understand your own mental health. Click on the website link to hear my own story and my colleagues stories. When you come to an EXPERT in this area, you will leave with information on how to understand these feelings and how to use skills to manage them. I will meet you where you CURRENTLY are and help you get where you want to go. You can find a safe haven when working with me. I hold the space for compassion, acceptance, and the belief in your ability to thrive as you learn to do the same for yourself. After having a session, wouldn’t it be nice to say “What’s next…” and not “What if…”

Andrea Garraway Counseling PLLC
Licensed Professional Counselor
Charlotte, NC

I am Dr. Garraway. I am a helper and I have a knack for finding remote and unexpected places to reinvigorate in touch. One secret of success is always being myself, colloquial, informal, and humorous. While evidence-based, I counsel from the familiar, practical, and everyday examples. My practice is 100% remote but still 100% warm, compassionate, and human. Here you will find a mental health psychotherapist, who specializes in substance-use treatment for adults and couples. I teach you how to listen to and honor the various parts of yourself that seek a voice, whether that be a thought, feeling, or observation, while challenging self-limiting beliefs, using a kind and loving approach that is transferable to other life challenges.
