Let me help guide you to find your strengths, embrace your innate resiliency, and reach your best you. I work well with young adults and adults who feel ready to make changes in their lives. Concerns and goals I am ready to work with you together on: veteran/military concerns, trauma/PTSD, anxiety, depression, postpartum concerns, and life changes. During our first appointment, we will get to know one another, discussing expectations for our work together, and setting long-term goals to support your construction of a healthier and more joyful life. I have a warm, empathetic, compassionate, and eclectic approach.
Life can feel like a constant push toward the next achievement, leaving you stuck in self-doubt, uncertainty, or the pressure to have it all figured out. Maybe you're questioning your path, struggling with relationships, or trying to break free from old patterns that no longer serve you. If your inner critic won’t quiet down or you feel overwhelmed by anxiety and stress, you don’t have to navigate it alone. The experiences we carry from childhood shape how we navigate relationships, cope with challenges, and see ourselves. Past wounds can create patterns that feel hard to break, but change is possible. If you feel stuck in cycles of self-doubt, struggling to set boundaries, or weighed down by family expectations, therapy can support you in discovering your true self and creating healthier patterns. I offer a space to explore these challenges, challenge limiting beliefs, and develop a stronger connection to yourself. I specialize in a psychodynamic approach with an attachment lens, helping you unpack how past experiences influence your present. Using a trauma-informed and holistic framework, I address the whole person—mind, body, and emotions. I also can incorporate brainspotting, a nontraditional but powerful tool that helps process trauma and emotional distress beyond talk therapy. Additionally, I support those adjusting to life with cancer or chronic illness, helping you navigate the emotional weight of a diagnosis, changes in identity, and the uncertainty that comes with it. My style is warm, approachable, and real. Therapy should be a place where you feel safe to be yourself—whether you’re laughing, crying, or just figuring things out. Let’s work together to build confidence, clarity, and a life that feels more like yours.

Patrick Balsley is a North Carolina Addiction Specialists Professional Practice Board Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor and Structured Family Recovery® Counselor who has dedicated his life to serving individuals and families struggling with addiction.
As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), I work with clients ages 12 and up who are ready to grow, heal, and create meaningful change in their lives. I have a passion for working with teens and college students, women navigating divorce, men working through intimacy concerns, and individuals facing major transitions in their careers, families, and relationships. I support clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, and self-doubt, as well as those who simply feel “stuck” and want more clarity and confidence. My style is warm, authentic, and conversational. I believe therapy works best when you feel comfortable, understood, and even able to laugh along the way. I use approaches such as CBT, IFS, and DBT skills, along with practical mindfulness tools and self-esteem work to help you feel more grounded and empowered. I offer in person and virtual. Life doesn’t come with a manual — and sometimes we all need support finding our footing again. I am deeply person-centered and value honesty, compassion, and collaboration. Together, we will work toward understanding your patterns, strengthening your confidence, and helping you build a life that feels more balanced and fulfilling.
Connection to self and others is my priority. If you feel past events in relationships with family, friends, or partners have created fear and insecurity in your current relationships, or you notice that you don't feel like yourself due to anxiety or depression that may be connected to difficult events in your life, we can explore ways to move through these events and feel ready to grow and develop your personal resilience as well as strengthen your ability to trust and connect with others.
Everyone is responsible for protecting and nurturing their mental health. Navigating through difficult life experiences can manifest stress, unhappiness, anxiety, anger, etc. Sometimes, we develop harmful ways to cope with these life experiences such as isolating ourselves, lashing out at others, abusing substances, among other things. It can be difficult to take the first step and reach out for therapy/counseling. However, taking that first step means that you're prepared to figure out how you can improve your circumstance and move forward. It's my mission to offer you support through your process of achieving mental wellness!
College is hard! I remember how hard it was in so many ways. I'm honored to be a support to you through this important time in your life. I specialize in anxiety. I also work on post-trauma growth for those with a history of trauma. My approach is both "bottom up" (focusing on how your body/biology is responding to stress) and "top down" (working with your thoughts and mind to better manage the way you are feeling/thinking). I am heavily influenced by my studies in mindfulness meditation and bring that approach into our work. I have a strong interest in neuroscience as well as spirituality. I like to say that my goal as a helper is not to “make you better” but to help you discover that which makes you feel more alive. Your true nature is one of wholeness, contentment, and compassion; let's get you back there.
You may be experiencing stress from a difficult adjustment or transition, adapting to college life, struggling with anxiety or depression, grief from the loss of a parent or loved one, going through the pain and loss of miscarriage or grief following an abortion. You may be on the autism spectrum, or the parents of a student who is. You may just need an objective and confidential professional counselor to talk to about relationship struggles. You may be feeling discouraged and alone, needing hope! You have made the courageous first step toward healing and growth by looking for a counselor. It would be an honor to walk with you on your journey toward becoming the person you want to be!

I’m a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS), Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS), and an ADHD Certified Clinical Service Provider (ADHD-CCSP). I specialize in working with individuals who may be struggling with anxiety, past traumas, disordered eating, confidence, feeling overwhelmed, or feeling inadequate. Some of my clients describe themselves as a "perfectionist". It’s exhausting trying to maintain the standards you hold yourself to when internally you’re feeling like things are falling apart. I take an empathetic and non-judgmental approach that creates a safe and warm environment allowing you to explore past traumas, feeling overwhelmed, anxious or inadequate. Please visit my website for more information. My practice offers a sanctuary for individuals who have endured past traumas or abuse, and for those who habitually set aside their own needs to care for others. I understand the profound frustration that arises when situations feel beyond your control. Through a blend of therapeutic approaches including CBT and evidence based somatic techniques, we'll explore the patterns that aren't working for your lifestyle anymore. Together, we'll work to uncover and address the roots of your challenges. My goal is to empower you to embrace vulnerability as a strength, enabling a transformative journey towards a more balanced, fulfilling life. Let's connect and build a genuine and authentic relationship that allows you to feel safe enough to be vulnerable.
