I enjoy helping clients work on anxiety, depression, self-esteem, family dynamics, life transitions, suicidal ideation and self-harm. I believe in walking alongside clients while providing a supportive and nonjudgmental space. I often use mindfulness techniques, solution focused therapy and trauma-informed care in treatment. I am passionate about social justice and love to incorporate nature and art into practice. I am a therapist practice at Triangle Counseling Agency in Raleigh. I am currently taking new clients and see clients remotely. I see children, youth and adults and also do couples counseling. I have been licensed since 2014. I am licensed in North Carolina, Virginia and Texas. I work with a wide variety of ages of people and have experience with using cognitive behavioral therapy, dialetical behavior therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy. Heather Hughes earned her Master's in Social Work with a Certificate in Aging Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2008. She works with individuals age 18+ using a variety of therapeutic modalities that are tailored to the unique needs of each individual. Heather shows a sense of compassion and warmth, directness, and a sense of humor as she supports clients to overcome personal barriers, develop a greater sense of meaning and purpose in life, and strive to attain personal goals. She works with individuals who have experienced anxiety, depression, psychosis, low self-esteem, attention difficulties, trauma, life transitions, work/school challenges, and relationship issues. I have a bachelors degree in clinical psychology, a masters degree in social work with a concentration in health and mental health, and a doctoral degree in health administration. My research focused on the impact of LGBTQ patient satisfaction on patient volume and hospital revenue. I believe mental health should be celebrated and embraced.
