Sometimes it's really hard for us to ask for help-especially when you're a strong, independent woman. Therapy is a great way to reach out, learn more about yourself, and grow through any challenges you might be facing. I help women who want to change their relationship with food and their bodies. I work with women in individual, group, & virtual therapy. I have a holistic approach that covers a wide range of symptoms & issues, but I enjoy helping clients who have struggled with their weight make peace with food. I love working with college women who are graduating & seeking support for the transition, and specialize in those women experiencing a "quarter life crisis". I also have a lot of experience helping women with recovering from sexual trauma. I love working with women who may have experienced an unplanned pregnancy or abortion as well, and offer an non-judgemental, pro-choice arena to explore emotions. Starting therapy can seem scary, but its brave to get some help! Make the decision to feel better today. I am an Out of Network insurance provider-contact your insurance to see if you qualify for these benefits. Flexible spending and HSA accepted as payment. I enjoy working with college students, and have experience treating a wide variety of issues. These include, but are not limited to: Anxiety, depression, stress, adjustment problems, self-esteem difficulties, and family conflict. I also have a special interest and training background in PTSD and trauma-related difficulties. I am EMDR-trained. My style is warm and collaborative, and I use an individualized approach with each client. I provide a safe, nonjudgmental space for you to gain support, insight, and tools to guide you on your mental health journey. I am an ideal choice for students who go to school in Massachusetts but permanently reside in New Hampshire (or vice versa). I am licensed in both states, which means that I can meet with you when you are at school and when you are home on breaks. I am an ally and safe space to members of the LGTBQIA community, racial/ethnic minorities, and those impacted by poverty. I am aware of how systemic oppression, systems of privilege, and all forms of prejudice impact human functioning. However, I do not pretend to be an expert in these areas, and I am not personally a member of the above-mentioned communities. I welcome any questions about me or my practice. Please feel free to reach out at carahgarsopsyd@gmail.com or 603-577-5551 x3.
Sometimes the stress associated with being in school, learning who you are, developing relationships, and generally navigating college life can lead to feelings and experiences that are very difficult to navigate alone. Even the adjustment to college can be very challenging, and sometimes old patterns that you thought you left behind can start revealing themselves again. Perhaps new patterns are concerning you. It's okay to reach out for help. Feeling better is truly possible, even when it feels like it might not be, or that you don't really need help. You don’t have to live in pain, pretend that it’s all okay, or manage alone. Together we can find a way to more ease, love, understanding, and acceptance. The journey to self-love, healing and wholeness is full of discovery, and requires a trusting, therapeutic relationship. Finding a skilled therapist, who is a good fit for you is essential. If you think I might be a good fit for you, let's connect.
Person Centered Therapy provides individual, family, and couples therapy to treat a multitude of mental health conditions. I particularly enjoy working with college students and young adults to guide them through career and life transitions as well as helping them to overcome limiting beliefs so they can thrive. I have over 27 years of experience in helping clients overcome anxiety, depression, anger, trauma/PTSD, grief/loss, stress, self-esteem, gender identity, phobias, and other issues which once prevented them from accomplishing their goals and making the important changes they wanted in life. Clients can expect “person centered” therapy which means the focus is on each person’s own unique insights and experiences. This empowers our clients to take a lead role in their therapy which offers them autonomy, empathy, unconditional positive regard, and help to reach their full potential to live a fulfilling life. We offer a safe and supportive environment so clients not only receive encouragement, but also feel comfortable being fully involved in sharing their thoughts and experiences. Such a supportive approach encourages clients to explore their own insights, find solutions, and take a very active role in their therapy. This method also promotes self-awareness, personal growth, autonomy and empowerment plus helps to develop healthy and effective coping strategies to improve emotional well-being and functioning across all areas.
Open for new clients! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and mother of two young children. I am thrilled that you are taking a step towards better understanding yourself and showing up as your authentic self. I offer virtual and in office therapy specializing in life transitions, anxiety, and self-esteem. I believe that one of the most healing things that you can do for yourself and for the world is to show up as your authentic self. I have an intuitive and energetic approach that aids in helping you connect to your own inner wisdom/truth, finding strengths that in turn help you live a life that provides pleasure and meaning.
Tired of briefly feeling a little better after talking to your therapist each week, while not really making any sustained progress? Feeling like you two don't really have (or haven’t even discussed) a plan to address what brought you in for therapy? If you answered “yes,” to either question, you unfortunately are not alone. From day one, a key part of treatment at T.O.P.+ Behavioral Health is developing a collaborative plan incorporating your goals and strengths. My therapy approach is warm and validating, while teaching you evidence-based tools to increase awareness of what’s keeping you stuck and to make changes to get unstuck and live more aligned with what is important to you. I offer both specialized and more general individual therapy services. As an expert in exposure and response prevention (ERP) and habit reversal training, I am proud to offer the first-line and gold-standard treatments for OCD and tic disorders respectively. In addition, I am an expert in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure therapy for panic disorder, social anxiety, phobias, and generalized anxiety disorder. Other specialty offerings include CBT for depression, adult ADHD, insomnia, and binge eating disorder. A significant portion of my practice also involves working with college students experiencing normal, but difficult, issues that often show up during college years and transitions, such as test anxiety, difficulties making or navigating friendships, trouble concentrating, self-esteem or identity issues, or relationship difficulties. In addition to the standard individual therapy services described above, T.O.P. + also proudly offers intensive therapy services for OCD (i.e., ERP), Tourette’s & Tic Disorders (i.e., HRT), Panic Disorder/Agoraphobia (i.e., CBT) and Specific Phobia (i.e., CBT). Our Accelerated ERP, HRT, and CBT Programs consist of longer sessions (e.g., two to four hours per session) compared with a standard 50-minute session. In addition, most Accelerated Programs meet more frequently (e.g., three to five times per week) compared with the standard once-weekly therapy session, allowing one to finish a dose of treatment in one to three weeks. Accelerated program sessions can take place in-office, via telehealth, in the community, or through a combination of these settings. Our Accelerated Programs are great 1) for those with severe symptoms for which meeting once weekly might not be adequate to manage concerns; 2) for individuals wanting to finish a dose of treatment in a significantly shorter period of time (i.e., Great for Winter or Spring Break); 3) in many instances to help create momentum, achieve symptom improvement and reach therapy goals more quickly; 4) save money by receiving a discount compared with T.O.P. +’s hourly rates for standard individual therapy. Contact Dr. Bowe to learn more about specific offerings and pricing of Accelerated Programs. I do not currently accept insurance for standard individual therapy or for any of the Accelerated Programs. For standard individual therapy, however, I offer a $50/session discount for in-person appointments at my downtown Northampton office which has ample free parking and is accessible by public transportation. An additional $10/session discount is offered by payment by cash/check for standard individual therapy appointments. These two discounts do not apply to Accelerated Programs. As noted above, however, there is a separate discounted hourly rate for Accelerated Programs which ends up being less than the hourly rate for standard individual therapy even after in-office and cash/check-payment discounts are taken into account. Please also be aware that many insurances also offer out-of-network benefits, and may reimburse some of your expenses for standard individual therapy sessions when you submit paperwork which I can provide you with. For a free 15- to 30-minute initial consultation, please call or email me to learn more about how I might be able to help you.

Hi! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 12 years of clinical experiences working with young adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, and trauma. I work with adults of all ages, but particularly enjoy working with college and graduate students. I look forward to hearing from you!
About me: I have a strong belief in therapy because I've successfully used it. I've had my own personal exploration into suffering and I've made my way out of these fogs by utilizing the support of others. It is my experience that no one lives their best life alone. Connection has the capacity to offer regulation and engender strength. I honor my sense of humanity that allows me to tend and befriend others, and take joy in my sense of playfulness that can bring a smile or a laugh to someone at the just the right moment. About my work: I work through an integrated lens, currently drawing on EFT, neuroscience, mindfulness, and positive psychology to explore how lifestyle, relationships, and early experiences shape our wellbeing. I also use the power of storytelling to help reframe the limiting narratives we carry about ourselves. Lately, I've been doing meaningful work with clients navigating OCD tendencies, using approaches including ERP and ACT. I am also working to expand my expertise through continued education in somatic approaches, chronic illness and premenstrual disorders, to support the full complexity of what my clients carry. My goal is to create a space that feels safe, to help people trust themselves again, and to help them recommit to life — through the big things and the small. About my credentials: I graduated from Lesley University with a MA in Mental Health Counseling in 2018. I am a Massachusetts licensed mental health counselor with experience in a variety of outpatient therapeutic settings. I welcome your questions.
