My specialties include working in the areas of eating disorders, body image, anxiety and depression, and sports performance. It is essential to practice self-care in order to have the energy, drive, and focus required to accomplish our life goals. Attention to health is vital, but if taken to the extreme, can wear us down. Preoccupation with food or exercise can distract from experiencing the nuances of life, as well as prevent the formation of meaningful relationships. I work with my clients to help them enjoy their food experiences, but also to utilize it as medicine to enhance well-being, perform effectively in school and at work, and enhance athletic abilities. I use a non-diet approach, focusing on assisting clients develop intuitive eating skills and increase mindfulness towards food and their body. Putting experience into words lessons difficulties and facilitates creative, individual ways of making it through life. For couples, fully expressing thoughts and feelings reduces the risk of relationships becoming more strained and faltering. Currently, I am seeing individuals interested in analytic work and couples. Psychoanalysis is the deeper exploration of unconscious dynamics that make you who you are. Understanding the full range of your life experiences and how they have shaped you can free you to pursue the life you want. For creative individuals, an analytic approach is especially helpful in working toward more sustain focus, deeper artistic aims, and an integration of the artist self. Meetings are by telephone or video through the fall, and optionally may continue. I am a candidate at the Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis and a licensed psychologist.
I am certified Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapist. In this approach, we get to know the different parts of you — the ones that may overfunction, strive for perfection, people-please, worry, or carry painful emotions. Rather than judging those parts, we learn to understand them with curiosity and compassion. Therapy can be a space to slow down, make sense of what’s happening internally, and help your system feel more balanced and connected. If faith or spirituality is important to you, we can absolutely incorporate that into our sessions. And if it’s not, that’s perfectly okay too.
I view therapy as a collaborative, client-centered process in which I help clients explore difficult emotions, ineffective behaviors, relationships, and work to increase greater self-compassion and understanding. I value building a caring and safe relationship with my clients and use a great deal of humor in my work. I support young adults with a wide range of struggles and utilize a variety of therapeutic modalities. My experience consists of providing psychotherapy and neuropsychological testing in a variety of settings including schools, community mental health centers, outpatient clinics, partial hospitalization programs, and residential treatment facilities.
