I help people overcome mental, emotional, and relational challenges in order to live better, more meaningful lives. Utilizing modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), grounded in interpersonal and psychodynamic approaches, I strive to make therapy a warm, caring, transformative space. I have worked in schools, mobile crisis, and since 2020 as an outpatient therapist and clinical supervisor at both national and local organizations. In 2026, I started my own practice, to which I bring my a commitment to provide top quality care and gratitude for the opportunity to do so. I particularly enjoy helping people struggling with following: trauma, OCD, anxiety, ADHD/executive functioning, self-esteem, relationship problems, and depression. If you struggle avoidance in any form, or if you've ever self-identified as an intellectualizer or over-thinker, we might work well together.
Our belief in the transformative power of therapy is at the forefront of our mission, guiding our commitment to provide an affirming space for individuals from every background. We deeply respect and honor the intersections of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability, and other critical facets of identity. Our therapists are devoted to culturally responsive care, tailoring their approach to resonate with each individual's unique experiences and cultural context. We are committed to providing a space where compassion, empathy, trust, justice, authenticity, and curiosity come together to foster healing and growth. Our team employs evidence-based practices, enriched by our lived experiences, to meet the diverse needs of our clients. Whether you are grappling with anxiety, depression, trauma, identity exploration, or life transitions, we are here to support and guide you through your healing journey. We consistently make a profound commitment to creating a nurturing and empowering environment. You'll find an atmosphere of genuine warmth, deep empathy, and unwavering support. We strive to build a therapeutic alliance founded on trust and collaborative understanding, a cornerstone that enables you to freely explore and embrace your challenges and strengths.
The most important part of therapy is building a good rapport with the individual to create a safe and comfortable space. Therapy isn't always easy and neither is the decision to find a therapist; working to ensure clients are comfortable with me and helping them to identify their goals so that the treatment trajectory is predictable, but allows for space to talk about day to day events, if needed. Lastly, ensuring client and therapist personalities align is important as it only enhances the sense of safety and the capacity for positive rapport growth. There is no one intervention that is best for one person. Therefore, I operate with an eclectic combination and knowledge of multiple interventions and techniques as a way to provide the best and most effective strength based and unique treatment. Treatment interventions are individualized in order to align with the identified treatment plan and goals. Individuals have experienced a multitude of events throughout their lives that connect to and impact their capacity to function as they wish within the world today. One persons experiences are never compared or judged; everyone is always doing the best they can in those moments and I want to work with them to help increase what their best looks or feels like.
Starting therapy can be a bit daunting and scary. Opening up and being vulnerable to a complete stranger can be challenging. That is why we make it my mission for the process to be pleasant and safe for you. Through various psychotherapy methods and collaborative treatment measures, our clients develop life-changing habits to help them cope with life’s various obstacles. Our therapy sessions are designed to dissect personal issues and provide clients with effective tools to help them see the glass as half full instead of half empty.

Hello, my name is Dr. Sarah O'Neil. I'm a psychiatrist (medical doctor who can prescribe) currently practicing entirely by telehealth. I am passionate about my work. I am warm and real. I will greet you with a smile, and talk to you like a fellow human. In addition to medication and evidence based therapies, I use humor, irreverence, thought provoking quotes, essays, websites, apps and video clips to introduce concepts such as self care, self compassion, boundary setting and effective coping skills. I provide a thorough initial assessment over the first several appointments, during which time we each figure out if we are a good match for working together. At the completion of the initial assessment, if we agree to work together, I will present a menu of reasonable treatment options that may include medication as well as CBT, DBT and mindfulness based therapy. If you are seeking professional help and are ready to engage collaboratively in an environment of hope and non-judgment to understand yourself through the lens of compassion, we may be a good fit. The best way to arrange an intake is to call my work phone: 617-622-3990. I have been treating/collaborating with/ advocating for college students for my entire career.
