Therapists for college students near Boston College
Hi, I am a licensed mental health counselor and a school psychologist. I have enjoyed working with adolescents in group, outpatient, and school settings. In my practice, I encourage building self-awareness and coping strategies that can support your well-being and a healthy lifestyle.
You don’t have to be falling apart to deserve support. Maybe you’re functioning well on the outside, but internally you’re exhausted, overwhelmed, self-critical, or unsure of how to move forward. Many of my clients come to therapy in the midst of life transitions or relationship challenges, seeking relief from anxiety, depression, and (diagnosed or suspected) ADHD. I offer a space to slow down, feel understood, and become more curious about your experiences without judgment. We can work together to help you find relief and develop a deeper, more compassionate understanding of yourself.
I am a culturally sensitive mental health counselor with long years of college teaching experience. I have been working with international students and immigrant families for 12 years in culturally diverse communities. My clients and colleagues describe me as a warm, intuitive, creative and culturally sensitive professional with a good sense of humor. I have been approaching my students and clients as storytellers and feeling fortunate to be part of their narratives. I love helping young adults to cope with social, emotional, psychological and academic issues and supporting them to gain control and feel happy within their lives.
Hello College Students! My name is Andrew Taytslin, Psy.D., and I am a clinical psychologist with over ten years of experience conducting neuropsychological and psychological evaluations with individuals across the lifespan. One of my specialties is helping college students identify aspects of their cognitive and psychological functioning that can impact day-to-day life, such as school and academics, work, social/interpersonal functioning, and mental health. The evaluations I conduct are comprehensive, involving various cognitive and psychological tests, and yield a diagnostic report that reviews test results, a summary of findings (including diagnoses if indicated), and treatment recommendations. For college students who receive a diagnosis and require assistance in the school setting, reports also include recommendations that can be integrated into accommodation plans in coordination with your school’s services department(s).
I practice from a relational psychodynamic and acceptance-based perspective, grounding my work in an understanding of how distress emerges in the context of structural oppression. I view healing as a process that includes resisting oppression and engaging compassionately with difficult emotions and thoughts. In therapy, I collaborate with clients to examine the narratives imposed on them and explore pathways toward living their values. I support adults navigating mood and anxiety concerns, identity development, life transitions, relational challenges, trauma, grief, structural oppression and substance use. I work with clients across all identities and specialize in working with Asian American and LGBTQ+ populations. My identities as a bilingual (Tagalog) Filipino American queer cisgender woman shape my commitment to serving Asian American, immigrant, and LGBTQ+ communities. I research the mental health impacts of Asian American sexually expansive people’s coping and resistance to racism and heterosexism, and their experiences of post‑traumatic growth and meaning‑making.

Personal identities/experiences: I am biracial (Filipina and White), the daughter of an immigrant, a foster-to-adopt (and bio) mom, and a cisgender woman. Outside of providing therapy, I work as a researcher and professor. What I offer: Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), parent skills training, evidence-based & collaborative treatment for those affected by trauma and/or discrimination, short- or long-term therapy, clinical supervision for psychology trainees, goal-oriented treatment tailored to your identities and cultures. I currently have telehealth openings! Please email me to find a time to connect. My fee is $300 per session and I provide superbills.
Michel Selva, Psy.D. Is anxiety holding you back from pursuing your dreams and living a full life? Is depression pushing you deeper into your own "cocoon", isolated from family and friends? Do you often lose your temper? Are you struggling with substance abuse or compulsive behaviors (binge eating, gambling, video games, pornography)? I have successfully treated people with these problems. I take a collaborative approach to psychotherapy, checking in during each visit to make sure we are making progress toward your goals. In between visits, I use reading materials, experiential exercises, and a smart phone app to help you to stay on track. I use the tools of Behavior Therapy (ACT, ABA, CBT, REBT). Research has validated these methods for treatment of anxiety, mood disorders, and compulsive behaviors. My goal is to help you "Get Out of Your Mind and Into Your Life," which is the title of one of the workbooks I use with clients. As a long time practitioner of meditation, I have experienced its positive impact in my own life. I teach mindfulness practices individually and in groups. Mindfulness helps us to be fully aware and alive in the present moment, and to act effectively in pursuit of what is most important in our lives.
I work with college students who are navigating life’s challenges—whether it’s anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, identity questions, trauma, cultural adjustment, or substance use concerns. I provide therapy in English and Mandarin and bring a multicultural perspective and psychodynamic approach to create a warm, supportive space for exploration and growth. My goal is to help my clients feel seen, understood, and empowered to reconnect with themselves and others. With years of post-graduate training at the Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis (MIP) and the Psychodynamic Institute of New England (PINE), I blend thoughtful insight with compassionate guidance. I see clients in person at my Watertown Square office and via telehealth. I am in-network with BCBS, will soon accept Harvard Pilgrim, and also welcome self-pay clients.
People seek psychotherapy for different reasons. You may want to address symptoms of depression, anxiety, or low self-esteem, feelings of distress, vulnerability, or isolation. You may be searching for greater meaning, connection, authenticity, and empowerment in your daily interactions. Therapy can help reveal and change patterns that inhibit or undermine living the life you desire. In a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship, we can create conditions for growth, challenge ways of seeing, process painful experiences, and increase your awareness and acceptance of different parts of yourself. I take a relational therapeutic approach and integrate methods that promote insight, emotional awareness, and motivation for behavioral change. Through my training and education at Harvard and Boston Universities, I developed expertise in treating anxiety disorders, trauma and loss, and in helping people identify and strengthen their sources of resilience. It can be an uncomfortable endeavor to start therapy for the first time or again. Building comfort and trust in relationship is one of the first things you and I would work on together. I welcome your questions and input from the start and throughout the process. Please feel free to get in touch.

Whether you're dealing with anxiety, adjusting to college life, struggling with self-doubt, or navigating relationships, I offer a safe, non-judgmental space to explore your thoughts and feelings. The students I work best with are those who feel like they’re juggling a lot—academic pressure, personal expectations, and social challenges—but who also want to grow, find balance, and build confidence. Many of my clients are learning to manage stress, cope with feelings of isolation, or figure out how to communicate better in their relationships. My approach is collaborative, and I focus on helping you find practical tools that fit into your life. Therapy doesn’t have to be intimidating; together, we’ll work at your pace to help you feel more grounded and in control. I’m a therapist in Brookline. I meet with clients in person and online. I enjoy working with adults of all ages and particularly young adults and people early in their careers who are searching for more meaning, fulfillment and balance in life. Regardless of the main issue that brings individuals into therapy, many of my clients struggle with some type of self-defeating narrative, or what I call, an unworkable story about themselves or about some aspect of their lives. I enjoy helping people uncover these unworkable patterns and develop more effective ways of viewing themselves and their lives. Working with me involves exploring what gets in the way of more openness, awareness and engagement with life, and then practicing increasing these ways of being through exercises (such as mindfulness approaches), use of metaphor to shift perspective and other behavioral moves. It’s important to me that I meet every client where he or she is at and work collaboratively toward creating the life you want for yourself. I look forward to connecting with you!
