Christie Garbarino is a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who provides diagnostic evaluations, psychopharmacological management, and individual psychotherapy. Christie has worked for over fifteen years in a variety of psychiatric environments, including a community mental health center, a dual diagnosis inpatient unit, private group practice, and a college counseling center. She enjoys working with adults of all ages who present with a diversity of psychiatric needs. Christie maintains a treatment philosophy that is holistic in nature, placing emphasis on assessing and treating the entire person. She uses both psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral theories in her work with clients, and she sees the formation of a strong therapeutic alliance as essential. Consequently, Christie values a team approach in working together with the individual to develop an appropriate plan of care. She is passionate about mental health care and grateful to have the opportunity to work with her clients. Christie is Board Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Providence College and a Master of Science degree in Nursing from Boston College. Many people I work with describe their struggles with self-doubt, persistent worries, irrational fears, and "overthinking" tendencies, saying that they second-guess themselves and struggle to quiet their anxious thoughts. Often, these struggles are a result of past traumatic events that have shaped how the brain perceives the world. Other times, these struggles may trace back to unhelpful messaging from outside sources, which can result in learned behaviors, patterns, and ways of thinking that promote anxiety, worry, and shame. I use modalities such as EMDR, psychodynamic therapy, and CBT to support clients with these struggles. Therapy can support us to uncover and understand the impacts that traumas and other past events have on how we navigate the world. This awareness, coupled with therapeutic interventions, can support us to heal from past hardships and make changes to the learned survival techniques that are no longer serving us. Those who work with me describe me as compassionate, accepting, and interactive in my approach, and I strive to create a comfortable and judgment-free environment for my clients. I offer online scheduling, specialized, evidence-based approaches, and brief, no-cost phone consultations. I encourage you to reach out to see if working together may be a good fit!
Are you self-aware, but still stuck in the same painful patterns? Feeling things intensely and struggling with emotional balance? Can't get your mind to calm down or your thoughts to stop racing? Healing, growth, and inner calm are absolutely possible. With 15 years experience working in social services, first as a health educator and then as a licensed therapist, there's not much I haven't seen or heard before. I use science-backed methods to identify what's blocking progress, and create personalized approaches that address root causes, not just the symptoms. My style is conversational & collaborative. I believe each person is more than a diagnosis & I work with you to identify the unique thought/emotion patterns and nervous system reactions you couldn't spot on your own, and create a personalized treatment approach which ensures therapy actually works.

I’m a psychologist licensed in both Massachusetts and Kansas who spent 5 years working in college mental health. My approach to therapy begins with the idea that all people have an inborn drive to grow and make continuous progress in their lives. But, difficult life circumstances often interfere with our natural capacity for growth. Negotiating life transitions, having relationship problems, and managing overwhelming responsibilities can make it hard to feel like our true selves. I strive to provide a warm and reflective space where you can take a break from the chaos of everyday life, observe your experiences and emotions, and reconnect with your core values. I am also an analytical thinker who can help you identify and understand different patterns in your life, both ones that can help you grow, and ones that have been getting in your way. I do my best work with people who feel misunderstood in their lives. If you frequently feel out of place because of who you are, or if you often find yourself being the only person "like you" in any given situation, I’d like to work with you. Through our collaboration, I hope to provide an experience that can help you transform your feelings into a productive creativity that you can carry with you for the rest of your life. If you think that I might be able to help you, please contact me so that we can talk and find out together whether my approach is a good fit for you. Unfortunately, because I am a staff psychologist at KU, I am unable to see students from KU at my private practice for therapy or testing.
Hey there! I'm Kat! I believe that therapy is most effective when rooted in authenticity. New to therapy? Not sure where to start? No problem. I'm all about providing mental health care that's compassionate and free of judgment – it doesn't matter your age, gender, identity, ethnicity, relationship style, or culture; I'm here to help. I am EMDR trained and a NASW-trained ally in care as an LGTBQ+ affirming provider. I have experience helping folks with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, PTSD, navigating life changes and transitions, and providing support to LGBTQIA+ clients.
Were you adultified as a child? Do you struggle with people pleasing and setting healthy boundaries? Have you begun to see ways trauma is ruling your life? You have come to the right place! We will work together to help you gain skills to manage your emotions, while also working on the root issues leading to the struggles of connection and regulation. It is possible for you to feel safe, trust yourself, and feel proud of who you are. Reach out today and we will begin this journey together. I work holistically and we will move at your speed, so you feel in control and can build trust before delving in. I am a non-judgemental, unpretentious therapist that will both unwaveringly sit with you in your pain, and also lovingly call you on your stuff. If this sounds good, then I might be a great fit for you. Send me an email so we can find out! I am queer and passionate about my LGBTQIA+ community. I am actively anti-oppressive and anti-racist. I am body positive and support Fat liberation. This means I will respect your pronouns, I see how structural oppression impacts mental health, and that therapy alone will not create the world we want to live in, and yet therapy can and does change lives.

Do you worry about the future? Would you describe yourself as having difficulty with perfectionism, relationships with family & friends, social anxiety or identity? We are a small practice with two therapists--Spencer & Carlie who love providing therapy to young adults as they navigate this exciting and nerve wracking time moving from childhood and dependence to adulthood and independence. We often work with young adults who may have had therapy in high school but did not previously find therapy helpful (often due to a lack of agency in picking their therapist, misunderstanding or invalidation of their experiences, disruptions in confidentiality or lack of concrete coping skills/goals worked on). We provide a reparative experience where clients feel genuinely supported and able to advocate and ask for what they need. We use a variety of different therapy modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectal-Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Attachment Based Therapy, EMDR, Goal-oriented Therapy and Mindfulness. Our clients often move towards a feeling of confidence, improved relationships and belief in their abilities to handle any challenges that may come their way.
