Do you struggle with daily negative thoughts and low mood? School or work stress? Feeling hopeless about the future and wondering if you will ever feel better? If so, I think we could be a good fit together in therapy. In sessions, I utilize a mix of actively listening and offering concrete tools to help you feel better and reach your goals. These tools are from research-backed treatments called cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). I also enjoy incorporating my sense of humor and positive demeanor to help you feel understood and motivated during our treatment together. I am licensed in New York and Massachusetts. My practice is currently virtual. In addition to my private practice, I am a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College, where I teach psychology and psychiatry graduate students. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions! I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to answer your questions and see whether I would be a good fit for your therapy goals.
Hello! I am currently accepting new patients. All visits are through telemedicine, so I can see anyone in the state of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, or Colorado. My love for what I do in psychiatry, comes from the joy I get in helping others improve their lives. Most of my patients do not know which direction to go when then come to me, and that is ok. Some people come to me looking for second or third opinions about diagnosis or medications, some people are referred by a therapist to start medication. We can openly discuss decisions and options. This is a judgement free zone. There is no way you can TMI me! My primary role in our sessions is diagnosis, evaluation and medication management. The role I have in therapy is very small. Most clients are already in therapy or have been referred by therapists to me. All sessions are conducted by tele-medicine. **Offering flexible hours, evening appointments available, also some weekends. **
I believe that every person, no matter what challenges life has brought them, deserves to live life to their fullest potential. I welcome and embrace all aspects of lived experience and work to help individuals feel safe and comfortable in articulating their deepest feelings. I have a strong interest in working with teens and young adults, empowering them on the path of self discovery and finding their unique place in the world. I completed my Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Dance/Movement Therapy from Lesley University in 2017. Since then, I have worked for Riverside Community Care gaining considerable experience in working with anxiety issues, self regulation and the challenges of family relationships. My trainings in Modern psychoanalysis from the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis and Motivational Interviewing developed my skills as a compassionate listener. I take a holistic approach to my work and believe that attention to mind, body and spirit is essential for healing. I integrate my additional trainings in mind/body wellness, Integrative Health and Wellness (including nutrition), yoga and Tai Chi, into my practice when and where appropriate.
I am a short-term therapist who works specifically with clients with chronic health conditions. Over the course of 20 sessions, we learn all about what is happening in your body and brain, learn and practice coping skills to manage anxiety related to your chronic medical condition, and have the option to complete hypnotherapy for chronic illness as well. If you are struggling with mental health related to a chronic health condition, and especially if you are experiencing high amounts of anxiety and low quality of life related to health symptoms, you will be a great fit for what I provide. If you have never done therapy before, or if you have found that your current therapist doesn’t quite “get it,” and you’re hoping to work with someone that has an intimate knowledge of chronic illness and hospital systems, then you will be a great fit. I also work alongside your full-time therapist if you have a therapist you love and would like to stay with while we complete our work together. I am also a good fit for someone who is specifically seeking out an LGBTQ therapist. I only offer virtual therapy at this time.

Hey Hey Hey! I’m Lenora Benson (She/Her/Hers), LICSW and I support black and ethnic minority women, in navigating the challenges and expectations imposed on them by the fallacy of the strong black women. Sometimes pain is overwhelming, especially as a young adult. You might be feeling sad, worried, or like no one else in the world understands. Maybe you are struggling in school or work, or having a hard time making friends. Or maybe you are in a difficult family situation, or are completely overwhelmed by what you want your future to be like. Regardless of where your pain is from, you may be noticing things like withdrawing from others or even physically harming yourself because you haven’t found better ways to cope with your feelings. Or maybe you’ve just noticed that you’re having more anxiety or sadness than usual. However you are experiencing your pain right now, I welcome the opportunity to work with you to form new patterns and explore the pain that lies underneath your current ones. Difficulties in life sometimes can’t be avoided, but you don’t have to face them alone. If we work together, you will have the opportunity to explore your thoughts and emotions in a caring atmosphere. We can think together about what might best help you work through the difficulties you are facing so that you can begin creating a life for yourself that is both enjoyable and fulfilling. I like to find creative ways to help you express your thoughts and what you need. For some people that can be talking about thoughts and feelings directly and learning about coping skills, but it can also include artwork or even finding memes that resonate with you. One of my goals is to use what you already enjoy and find helpful to personalize our work to fit you. My sessions are feedback-informed. During our first session, we will talk about which approaches might work best for you and talk about what our future sessions might look like. Throughout our work together, we will check in about what is working well and what changes you might want to make to help our time to feel more effective and supportive. I invite you to explore my website for more information on working with me as well as my background and training. I welcome you contacting me with questions or to talk about if I might be a good fit to work with you.
