Therapists for college students near Chicago, IL
I am licensed counselor in the state of Illinois. I unfortunately only speak English. I have worked with a wide variety of clients from teens to seniors, individuals, couples and have lead and co-lead counseling groups. I have 18 years of experience and have worked in a variety of different organizations and settings including doing community based counseling helping people to manage their mental and medical health issues in a variety of different settings. As a counselor, my goal is to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel comfortable being yourself. I understand that starting therapy can feel intimidating, and I work at a pace that feels right for you. When we begin working together, I take time to get to know you and your experiences, your strengths, and what you hope to gain from therapy. I use a person-centered approach, which means you are the expert on your own life, and we will work collaboratively to identify your goals. I also draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) techniques to help you build practical skills for managing challenges like anxiety, depression, stress, and relationship concerns. My approach is flexible and tailored to your unique needs. With 18 years of experience working with a wide range of individuals, I aim to meet you where you are and support you in making meaningful, lasting changes. Whether you're navigating a difficult time or working toward personal growth, I’m here to help you along the way.
At Relational Wellness Therapy, we love working with students who are trying to make sense of life’s in-between seasons. Maybe you’re juggling classes, relationships, and figuring out who you’re becoming, and it’s starting to feel like a lot. You don’t have to have it all together to show up here. Our student clients often share a common goal: they want to feel grounded, more confident in their choices, and at peace with who they are. We help you slow down, understand what’s really going on underneath the stress, and find tools that actually fit your life. Therapy with us isn’t about perfection. It’s about helping you feel seen, supported, and more like yourself.

You can take control of school tasks and activities and really achieve. You can navigate relationships to get the support you need. Hi there! My name is Reese Minshew, and I work almost entirely with transgender (broadly defined) adults who have had traumatic (broadly defined) experiences. I’m licensed in California, Illinois, and New York, and work via telehealth with people located in any of those states. Clinically, I believe that the reactions we have after experiencing trauma and stress are fundamentally adaptive to the trauma, but can disrupt everyday life. In other words, if you had a difficult experience (including chronic exposure to structural stressors such as anti-trans bias, white supremacy, ableism, etc), you might not be able to eat, sleep, focus, calm down, feel excited, or be in relationships in the way you want. Whatever reaction you’re having was very helpful to you at one time, but if it’s no longer serving you then we can work on that. Most of the time we would do this by talking about what’s going on in your life right now, and working to understand it in the context of your past experiences.
I have worked in crisis intervention with survivors of trauma, military families, children, teens, and adults for over 25 years. I am here to support individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and life transitions. I can help clients develop a solution-focused approach to solving problems. I am a compassionate and caring therapist who works with where you are at. I am a trauma-certified therapist who believes in working with a client-centered approach. If you need emotional support and someone open-minded, supportive, and understanding, then I welcome the opportunity to work with you.

In my 15 of years providing therapy, I have worked with various individuals experiencing different life challenges. The goal is to create a connection and from that connection build a bridge to healing and recovery. I believe that we are all seeking radical acceptance and radical belonging. Systemic oppression significantly impacts mental and physical wellness. I strongly believe it is not that a person needs to be "fixed". Marginalized and oppressed folx need support, space, agency, and tools to navigate an increasingly hostile and toxic environment. Social justice drives the work that I do personally and professionally. I specialize in the following: -Anxiety -Depression -Bipolar – Complex Trauma LGTBQIA+ -Women’s Issues -Oppression-Based Trauma -Racial Identity Challenges -Gender Affirming Hormone Therapy Letters -Gender Affirming Surgery Letters Therapy is not about weakness, it’s about strength. The courage to face the pain, accept it, and continue on despite it. We are on a journey together, one that includes tears and laughter. Authenticity in terms of my own experience and journey, along with the use of humor, allows me to create warm, safe space in order to develop a strong therapeutic bond.
