Hi there! My name is Julia, and am a Licensed Master Social Worker in the state of Georgia. I am passionate about walking alongside young adults and college students navigating challenges related to anxiety, emotional regulation, effects of trauma, life transitions, and relationship concerns. I also have expertise in supporting women in the pre- and postpartum period. I am dedicated to creating a collaborative therapeutic relationship in which clients feel comfortable to be their most true selves, explore their values and strengths, and connect with their inherent worth. I use a trauma-informed, relational approach to therapy that combines a thoughtful blend of Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness practices to help clients connect with the present moment. I bring a warm, grounding, and compassionate energy to therapy, offering a space that is nonjudgmental and connected. I love supporting clients in better understanding their emotional worlds, developing practical tools for self-regulation, building secure relationships, and reconnecting with their sense of self. I would be honored to get to work with you!

Providing individual therapy for college students and young adults, I foster a warm, supportive, and collaborative environment, dedicated to creating a safe space where you can explore, grow and heal. Building a positive and trusting relationship between us is fundamental to navigating through challenging issues. I believe in the ability to work through our problems. My approach leverages cognitive behavioral techniques, mindfulness and interpersonal development to empower clients to achieve their goals and navigate through life’s difficulties. I understand how difficult it can be to reach out for the first time. Having the courage to reach out is the first step in the process of empowering yourself to feel better. I hope to hear from you.

Everyone can benefit from therapy regardless of how big or small a problem feels: both sprained and broken ankles can benefit from crutches! Whether you have faced a life-altering event, or have worries about the future, I will guide and support you along the journey. Taking the first steps to begin therapy can be intimidating, but is an important move to make to become your best self. My approach balances the emotional processing necessary to generate insights with the practical components of skill building to truly give you all the benefits therapy can provide. I use a flexible integrative model to generate individualized treatment since no two people or problems are the same. I believe therapy is most effective when we collaborate to improve your quality of life. I'm excited to begin the process of achieving your personal goals! Currently supervised by Tara Towler-Cumby, MA, LPC, CPCS.

I employ a variety of approaches in my work including Dialetical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Internal Family Systems. I have particular expertise in helping trauma survivors. I help people heal from complex trauma by providing a safe, caring, non-judgmental therapeutic environment. College can be a stressful time, with new academic demands, social pressures, and uncertainty about the future. College can also be demanding with tight deadlines, exams, and responsibilities, leading to high levels of stress that can become overwhelming. I have special expertise in helping students navigate the demands of college. I have experience helping individuals who struggle with eating disorders, anxiety, and depression. I also have experience working with individuals who identify as part of a gender, sexuality or relationship structure minority (GSRM). I also have expertise in healing from narcissistic abuse. Narcissistic abuse is a type of emotional abuse where the abuser only cares about themselves and may use words and actions to manipulate their partner's behavior and emotional state. Healing from this kind of abuse requires expertise from the therapist about navigating boundaries, especially when there is a continuing relationship. I believe it is a privilege to accompany people on their therapeutic journey. I tailor my approach to each unique individual.

Hello and welcome to my page! Reaching out is the first step towards healing and I'm glad you are here. My therapeutic style is warm, compassionate, and honest. Before moving into private practice I worked in a variety of therapeutic settings at the inpatient and residential level of care. I am passionate about helping others look back at the experiences that have shaped who they are so they might have a clearer and more satisfying path forward. I draw from a combination of techniques including psychodynamic and attachment theories. If you find that you have difficulty functioning in everyday life, finding joy, communicating effectively and maintaining healthy boundaries in relationships, I would love to work with you. As a counselor, I work with individuals struggling with little t trauma (emotional abuse, prolonged stress, chronic disappointment, abandonment, neglect, relational distress with family members and/or significant other), grief/loss, women’s issues, spiritual trauma, and those who would like to learn more about their attachment style. Outside of work my interests include hiking, kickboxing, paddle boarding and traveling anywhere a place, train, car, or boat can take me.

We help people who look happy on the outside actually feel that way on the inside. It's exhausting trying to keep it all together. Most of us expend a huge amount of effort to make it look like our life is perfect; especially on social media. Some of us even relate to the dreaded Imposter Syndrome. While our accomplishments may be lengthy, our relationships and fulfillment are lacking. We understand, and our approach reflects just that. Creating a connection is core to our approach to counseling. We work from a multitude of theoretical frameworks including person-centered, positive psychology, cognitive behavioral, family systems, and solution focused. Much of our experience has been helping people find balance in their lives and re-focus their energies on values important to them.

Amelia Thomas is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC013793) and EMDR Certified Therapist specializing in working with adults on trauma recovery, anxiety, self-esteem, identity development, life transitions, and relationship concerns. Amelia is inspired by helping individuals recognize their worthiness through the healing of past wounds and the strengthening of their authentic voices. Amelia works with individuals who have reached the point in their counseling journey that they are ready to begin the brave work of addressing past hurts and traumas that are keeping them “stuck” in unhealthy patterns. Amelia also enjoys working with young adults as they navigate the challenges that come along with burgeoning independence, changing relationships, and major life transitions. Amelia offers EMDR Therapy in her work with clients seeking recovery from trauma. EMDR Therapy has been shown to be effective in treating a number of presenting concerns, including but not limited to trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem/self-worth, grief/loss, sleep issues, chronic pain, and more. Amelia has worked in many settings, including a non-profit serving survivors of domestic and sexual violence, an emergency housing shelter, and a university counseling center. Her professional and personal background has led her to develop a strong desire to assist individuals in healing from the profound pain that traumatic experiences can leave behind. In helping survivors free themselves from old, ineffective patterns, Amelia seeks to support clients in cultivating resilience, connection, and meaning in their lives. Amelia obtained a B.S. in Sociology from Appalachian State University and an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Mercer University. Therapy is a journey into yourself. It is choosing to step forward into growth rather than shy back into what is safe and comfortable. When we talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. This process of self-discovery isn’t easy, but certainly worth it! My approach to counseling is that of being direct, honest, and straightforward. I work hard to balance that with care, compassion, and empathy. I will push you, but not past your limits. At times it may feel as if I am pushing you past your limits but that is because often times we aren’t able to see our true potential.

We all need spaces where we can show up as our full, authentic selves—messy, complex, and human. Therapy can be that space: a place where we can slow down together, reflect, and explore what healing and growth might look like for you. I work with adults navigating trauma, anxiety, ADHD, and relationship challenges. My approach is deeply relational—grounded in empathy, respect, and a commitment to understanding your unique story. In our work together, we'll explore what’s been holding you back and what’s helped you get through, always focusing on what feels most meaningful and supportive for you. I draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches, including EMDR, DBT, relational, somatic, and psychodynamic techniques, and I tailor our work to what best supports you. Healing happens in connection, and in our work together, I’ll meet you with care, curiosity, and a focus on what might be possible as we explore a path toward more ease, trust, and connection in your life. If you're curious about starting therapy, please reach out. I’d love to connect and explore what healing and growth could look like for you!
