Therapists for college students near 30332
My name is Ashleigh Tricksey. I have been working in the counseling field for 5 years now. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in my theoretical approach while still integrating other techniques that best fit the needs of the client. If you are experiencing anxiety, adjustment issues, depression, grief/loss, low self-esteem, and/or trauma then I am here to help you reach your goals and maintain healthy mental health.
My first career was in teaching and counseling is my second career. I did my internship at Ridgeview Institute on the adolescent unit. I worked there for 5 years as the DBT coordinator, utilizing both my teaching and counseling skills. While there, I trained graduate students in DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy.) I also became a registered play therapist during that time. I started a private practice, My Secret Garden counseling service, in 2015. I work with all ages, mainly helping people build a life worth living by learning to manage their emotions instead of having their emotions manage them. I believe in the inherent worth of every person, and that healing comes from relationship. I am a Christian, but have seen people of various beliefs. I am well versed in DBT, but also incorporate interactive play, talk therapy, and expressive art techniques.
Life throws curve balls. You don't have to take them on alone. I believe in creating a safe environment to help you manage everything you are carrying. In addition to private practice, I have experience working in community behavioral health for 7 years and in a brief intervention virtual program for 3 years, providing therapy to adolescents and adults. I have worked with clients with various diagnoses and those seeking assistance in self-esteem, relationships, life transitions, parenting, and grief and loss, among others. I utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy. I believe in establishing a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients to work together to achieve established goals in a safe and trusting environment. It takes courage to ask for help and seeking support in therapy is the first step in making a positive change. Throughout every session, I work to help you develop and utilize coping mechanisms to make progress towards your goals. I look forward to working with you!

"My goal as your therapist is to support you in facing, understanding, and coping with the behaviors, thought patterns, and emotional responses that contribute to feeling stuck in life or not becoming what you believe to be the best version of yourself. "
Are you are stuck in a job you hate, aren’t sure if you should stay in your current relationship, or just feel in a “funk” from time to time? If so, therapy is for you. I use a solution-focused approach to help you find the answers you are looking for. I enjoy working with adults (and older teens) who can’t quite figure out how to live their best lives. I specialize in couples – before marriage, when you still have stars in your eyes, after marriage when things are a bit harder than you thought they’d be, and towards the potential end of marriage, when you need to make the tough decision to either stay together or not. My typical clients are high achieving, and motivated people who need some guidance in a particular area of their life, I'll work with you to identify patterns (and people) that keep you stuck, and help find a path forward. I'll also show you how to set boundaries and identify what you can and cannot control, so you can move forward confidently. Sometimes the most difficult part of therapy can be making the decision to start. I am located in the heart of historic Kirkwood in-town Atlanta neighborhood and, am available to do telehealth (video calls) on a case-by-case basis. Give me a call or email today to set up an initial free 15 minute phone consult to see if we would be a good fit!

I have experience working with adults and elderly who struggle with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, schizophrenia, bipolar, personality disorders, along with major life transitions and end-of-life decisions. My work with adolescents includes depression, anxiety, trauma/PTSD, school behavior concerns, and sexual identity. We will talk about negative thoughts and behaviors & learn techniques to alleviate the symptoms you are experiencing using play-, talk-, and/or art- therapy techniques. We will work together to achieve self-acceptance. I will provide a judgment free zone, with a feeling of safety, comfort, and an open mind. I often had difficulty expressing my feelings & my father taught me how to think critically, love unconditionally, never judge, and how to use other forms of self-expression, like art and writing. I was introduced to AA meetings & found comfort & safety to express my thoughts with my father’s life lessons & knew this was my path. I earned my BS in Psychology at Florida State University in 2015 and MS in Counseling with a concentration in mental health at NOVA Southeastern University in 2019. I am Trilingual (English/Spanish/French). I enjoy practicing self care through painting, dancing, singing, travelling, and binge watching TV shows with my husband & fur-baby, Maddy.
